Medicare Supplement Plans - Plan C

Rich Benefits - Medicare Part B Excess Charges

Medigap has a rich collection of benefits. Out of the standardized Medicare Supplement Insurance plans, only Plan F has more benefits. Benefits include:

  • Medicare Part A co-insurance hospital costs up to an additional 365 days after Medicare benefits are exhausted
  • Medicare Part B co-payment or co-insurance payment
  • First three pints of blood for a medical procedure
  • Part A hospice care co-insurance payment or co-payment
  • Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) care co-insurance
  • Medicare Part A deductible costs
  • Medicare Part B deductible costs
  • Foreign travel emergency coverage (up to plan limits)
  • Medicare preventive care Part B co-insurance charges

The one benefit that Plan F has that Plan C does not have is coverage for Medicare Part B excess charges. Medicare Part B excess charges are doctor expenses that exceed Medicare's approved payment for the service with the difference being charged to the patient. For example, if a doctor charges 115% of the amount Medicare will pay for a procedure, you are responsible for the remaining 15% left after the Medicare reimbursement amount is subtracted.
